The Early Intervention Program provides individualized services for children and their families from birth to the age of 3. Practitioners work together with parents and other caregivers to increase the family’s understanding and ability to guide their child’s developmental progress. Sessions include various fun and creative activities that are both educational and therapeutic. Early Intervention Services are integrated into each family’s everyday routine and services are provided in such familiar settings as the home, a childcare center or out in the community. Together, the entire team works to achieve the developmental outcomes identified with the family and as reflected in the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
Primary services may include educational or teaching, speech-language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy. For a more complete description of these services please refer to our related services section on this website. Additional services may also be offered including “Music and Movement” and “Meet and Play” groups which meet at our Haddonfield Campus. These group sessions offer families the opportunity to meet other parents for peer mentoring and receive extra professional support while exploring a community setting.
When a child is first referred to the Early Intervention System in New Jersey, a free evaluation is completed to determine eligibility. Once eligibility is determined and an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is developed, a family may have a responsibility to pay a portion of the cost of services. A New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) Early Intervention System Service Coordinator is assigned to complete a confidential financial review to determine if there will be a cost share responsibility. A sliding fee scale based on family size and income is used to determine the family’s share. Kingsway Learning Center’s program does not have any direct involvement in this confidential determination nor the NJDOH billing to families.
If you have any concerns about your child’s development, contact the New Jersey Early Intervention Single Point of Entry (SPOE) Statewide Referral Line at 1-888-653-4463. Families of eligible children have the option to develop an IFSP and receive services. Eligible children with an IFSP who live in our service area may be assigned to KLC’s Early Intervention Program to receive services.
